The inaugural Solomon Airlines Guadalcanal Half Marathon and Fun Run presents an unique opportunity to challenge yourself in a beautiful tropical paradise. Come and see why so many have become enchanted by this wonderful destination.
Solomon Islands Guadalcanal Half Marathon 10km & 5km runs and 2km kid’s fun run 18 October 2009 – Guaranteed Entry
The run starts in Honiara and follows the coastline of Iron Bottom Sound to the turnaround point of a wartime ship wreck. Few events offer you the opportunity to run through local villages set in coastal rainforest with the backdrop of the Solomon Sea and Savo Island. These islands are steeped in tribal mystery and history including the bitter struggle for control of the Pacific in the Second World War.
The Solomon Airlines Guadalcanal Half Marathon offers four distances of 2, 5, 10 and 21.1 kilometres. Like all good events, food and drink will be provided on course and by the time you have completed your challenge, there'll be a ice cold Solbrew waiting. The event wraps up with a celebration festival at the King Solomon Hotel where you will experience traditional island dances and pipe flutes.
While you are in the Solomon Islands, take advantage of the world renowned attractions of the many islands offering surfing, fishing, snorkelling and scuba diving. For the history buffs, there are the numerous battlefields and relics to discover at Bloody Ridge, Mt Austen and museum. For the foodies, well the seafood does not come any fresher nor the lobsters any bigger.
You will come away from this event with more than a t-shirt ... the Solomon Airlines Guadalcanal Half Marathon will be the start of a lifelong love affair with paradise.
